GLNAWI Mission

GREATER LANSING NETWORK AGAINST WAR & INJUSTICE

adopted November 2003

MISSION

The Greater Lansing Network Against War & Injustice (GLNAWI) promotes nonviolent solutions to international conflicts and advocates policies that promote human rights and civil liberties to ensure a just and democratic world.

WHO WE ARE

GLNAWI is a broad-based organization with representatives from over 30 mid-Michigan area groups and faith communities and many individuals who oppose the policies that led to the war in Iraq and threaten to lead to further war.

HOW WE WORK

GLNAWI works to carry out its mission through education, petitioning elected officials and candidates, non-violent actions, and supporting humanitarian aid.

WHAT GLNAWI ADVOCATES

  • GLNAWI stands for democracy and autonomy. Neither the U.S. nor any other country should ignore the will of people around the world and violate and weaken international law. We oppose the imposition of U.S. unilateral policies on the world community and on international bodies such as the United Nations.
  • GLNAWI stands for equity. Neither the U.S. nor any other country should seek empire. For example, the U.S. ought not to control Middle Eastern oil on behalf of U.S. corporations and as a wedge to gain political control over other countries.
  • GLNAWI stands for freedom. We oppose brutal regimes in Iraq and elsewhere but we also oppose the new doctrine of “pre-emptive war”. This doctrine guarantees permanent and very dangerous conflict and is the reason why many people around the world now regard the U.S. as the major threat to peace.
  • GLNAWI stands for solidarity with millions of people around the world who have opposed and continue to oppose unjust, illegal, and immoral wars.
  • GLNAWI stands for diversity. We stand for an end to racism directed against immigrants and people of color. We stand for an end to repression at home and abroad, especially as a result of the Patriot Act and similar legislation or regulations.
  • GLNAWI stands for peace. We stand against the war in Iraq and against the conditions, mentalities, and institutions that breed and nurture war and injustice.
  • GLNAWI stands for justice and for policies that redirect the money used for war and military spending to provide healthcare, education, housing, and jobs.
  • GLNAWI stands for a world whose political, economic, and social institutions foster solidarity promote equity, maximizes participation, celebrate diversity, and encourage full democracy.
  • GLNAWI will remain concerned with the welfare of the people of Iraq and demands that the U.S. respect international law, safeguard civilians, and provide adequate humanitarian assistance and reconstruction of what the U.S. war has destroyed.
